Almost Wordless Wednesday - December 16, 2009

Irene Banet Dreher
1906-1989
My Mother grew up during a hard time in our Nation's history. The tail-end of the Great Depression. While her family lived in the "country", it was not considered a poverty stricken area. However, most homes still did not have running water, although most did have electricity.
The above picture was taken of my Grandmother, about 1955. It was the dead of winter, and she was going to the well to get a bucket of water for the house. Dressed for warmth, she wearing long underwear, a pair of jeans, a sweatshirt, her shoes under heavy rubber galoshes, gloves, and her winter coat.
Man... I am so thankful we have indoor plumbing today!
